Jochgrimm – Schwarzhorn (2439 m)

Category: medium to difficult
Starting point: car park at Joch Grimm, approach via Lavazè Joch
Walking time: ca. 2.5 hours
Difference in altitude: 450 m.
Possibilities for refreshments: Hotel Schwarzhorn, Gasthaus Inn Jochgrimm
Route: From Joch Grimm you go between the Hotel Schwarzhorn and the Inn Jochgrimm, across marshy meadows, in a south-easterly direction. On the edge of beautiful, open stone-pine woods, one joins a well-marked path leading right. This crosses a small stream, and runs between different types of pine trees and fields of Alpine roses to the upper station of a ski-lift. From here one crosses grass scattered with scree to reach the rocky summit area, and climbing steeply over the easy rocks, you reach the highest point of the Schwarzhorn. The return journey is via the same route.
Special tip: To climb the Schwarzhorn requires a degree of sure-footedness in the area of the summit, but offers a more comprehensive view to the south and east, especially of the Pala range, than the neighbouring Weisshorn. The view of Cavalese, way below in the Fleims Valley, is especially beautiful.
