The Forest Educational Path
Die meisten Menschen wissen gar nicht,
wie schön die Welt ist
und wie viel Pracht in den kleinsten Dingen,
in irgendeiner Blume,
einem Stein, einer Baumrinde
oder einem Birkenblatt sich offenbart.
Rainer Maria Rilke
(Most of mankind has no idea
How beautiful the world is,
And how much splendour is revealed
in the smallest things,
a stone, the bark of a tree, or a birch leaf.)
You can find this saying on one of the ten notice-boards along the Forest Educational Path. It sums up in a few words what the path and the texts on the boards are trying to stimulate in us as we make our way along the path, in the midst of the natural world; an attentive eye for detail, and a thoughtful and responsible approach to nature. The path begins by the large new car park below the Alpine hut Lahner, and takes a short circular route to the Alpine hut Lahner and back to the car park. It is ideal for children and older people, but also for all interested hikers. The Forest Educational Path is a wide gravel path which is accessible to wheel chairs and children’s pushchairs. Along the path, there are ten notice-boards which relate directly to the life in the forest. You will find information about the life of forest bees, frogs and woodpeckers, fungi, mosses and lichens, insects and sheep, and about the forest itself and the larch meadows.
It is well worth taking the time to have a good look at the boards. The photographs are as impressive as the selected texts, and hopefully, at the end of the walk, you will see the forest and natural world with different eyes.
